Sports Highlights Week 17 2025

U12A vs The Dragon (Lost 3-2)

The game kicked off under clear skies, with both teams showing early signs of attacking intent. It was the away side who struck first. A well-executed counter-attack saw them break quickly down the right wing, and Barney G lifted the ball over the top of the keeper, giving the team a 1-0 lead after just 10 minutes. The early goal sparked confidence in the U12A players, and they continued to press forward.
However, The Dragon School responded well. Despite conceding early, they grew into the game, retaining possession and creating pressure on The Beacon’s defense. In the 15th minute, a quick pass inside the penalty area wrong-footed the defence, and The Dragon School equalised with a powerful strike that found the bottom corner. 1-1.
The match became increasingly competitive, with both teams battling hard for the lead. In the second half, the boys reclaimed the advantage. A brilliant piece of individual skill from Henry Mc, saw him weave through the Dragon defenders before calmly pass the ball to Lawrence H who slotted the ball home to make it 2-1. The goal was a reward for the team’s persistence, as they had worked tirelessly to regain control after conceding the equaliser.
The Dragon came back and managed to grab an equaliser to make it 2-2, with only 10 minutes to go. In the penultimate minute,  a Dragon corner swung into the penalty box, and despite a scramble in front of goal, the ball found its way into the back of the net, leaving the U12As devastated. The last-gasp goal gave The Dragon School a 3-2 lead.
The final whistle blew with the score at 3-2, handing the U12As a tough defeat. While the result was disappointing, the team can be proud of their effort and determination throughout the match. They showed resilience and skill, particularly in taking the lead twice, but ultimately, a late goal from a corner proved to be their undoing.
