Sports Highlights Week 11 2024

U12A vs Davenies

The Beacon U12A team took to the field against Davenies with something to prove. Having suffered a tough 6-1 defeat earlier in the season, the boys knew they were up against a formidable opponent. However, this time, they were ready.
From the first whistle, The Beacon boys set the tone with relentless aggression and commitment. They dominated the breakdown, disrupted Davenies’ rhythm, and defended with a level of intensity that immediately put the opposition under pressure. Their hard work was rewarded early on, with a well-earned try to break the deadlock. Moments later, a second try followed, leaving the Davenies players visibly shaken.
Despite the challenging conditions, The Beacon showed impressive skill and composure. The ball handling was slick, and the boys displayed excellent awareness and teamwork to spread the play wide. This expansive style of rugby paid off handsomely, resulting in four more tries and extending the lead to 6-0.
Determined to keep a clean sheet, The Beacon’s defensive effort was nothing short of heroic. Every player put their body on the line, tackling with precision and refusing to allow Davenies any opportunity to cross the try line. It was a true team effort, with each boy contributing to a disciplined and focused defensive display.
This match was a testament to how far the team has come since the start of the season. The improvement in their skills, teamwork, and mental toughness was evident in every phase of play. The Beacon boys demonstrated grit, determination, and a never-give-up attitude that saw them emerge victorious in challenging conditions.
A well-deserved win and a performance to be proud of. Well done to all those involved!

U10A vs St John's Beaumont and Gayhurst

The U10A rugby squad delivered an exceptional performance in their latest fixtures, displaying teamwork, determination, and skill as they emerged victorious in both matches against St John’s Beaumont and Gayhurst.
St John’s Beaumont ( Won 9-3)
The first match set the tone for the day, with the team quickly finding their rhythm. Strong running and slick passing led to several early tries, establishing a solid lead. The boys dominated the breakdowns, ensuring a steady supply of possession, while the backs showed great composure to capitalise on scoring opportunities. St John’s Beaumont fought back with three well-earned tries, but our defensive organisation and relentless tackling ensured the gap remained unassailable.
Gayhurst (Won 6-4)
The second game proved to be a closer contest. Gayhurst brought intensity and physicality, keeping the scoreline tight throughout. However, the team’s resilience shone through, with decisive turnovers and quick counterattacks proving the difference. The tries were shared among the squad, highlighting the depth of talent and teamwork on display. A particularly crucial try late in the game sealed the win, showcasing the team’s ability to perform under pressure.

U13Bs vs Davenies

On Wednesday, the U13B team took on Davenies in a thrilling game that proved to be an action-packed last game for the Bs. This was our last game, so we needed to start quickly and that’s exactly what we did, as after a few disappointing close games we needed a win to finish our Beacon rugby career on a high. After a quick talk from the captain Ben F and Mr Stansfield we were ready.
In previous games it took us a few minutes to get ready, but this game was different with some quick hands out the wing Alex C ran over the tryline to begin the game, after some crunching tackles from Jackson R and Oliver F we had won the ball back. Like clockwork we almost replicated our first try with a break from Aiden C who passed a quick pass to Jackson R for his first try of the game. We were playing some of the best rugby we’ve played this season, until a lack in concentration made for an easy Davenies try just before half-time. We went into the half time talk excited and ready for our last half of rugby for The Beacon.
Off the restart Davenies kicked it to Theo W who with some footwork went passed to Aiden C who ran past some players before offloading to Oliver F who did the rest. Then we shattered Davenies’ hopes with some more fancy footwork from Jackson R who went himself scoring his second of the game making the score 4-1. And finally, to cap off a season of ups and downs, Alex C picked a gap through the defence and scored his second. Unfortunately, Davenies injuries meant that some of our players including Kishan P and Jackson R helped out their team by playing for them and helping them score two more tries then finally the final whistle blew ending the game 5-1 and finishing a season of highs and lows. Thank you to Mr Stansfield for coaching us and improving our skills so we can continue developing our skills at our next school.
Well done to Finley W, Kishan P, Edward G, Alex C, Berek I, Theo H, Theo W, Oliver F, Jackson R and Ben F (Captain).

Under 13A vs Davenies

Glenn McGrath, Pete Sampras, Michael Johnson, Michael Phelps, Mark Cavendish and Brain O’Driscoll – just some of the people on the world sporting stage who have been lucky enough to have ended their sporting career in a fairytale manner. Boys – if you’re reading this and you don’t know any of the names, firstly, shame on you and now – go and ask your parents…

On the flip side, there is an endless list of those (Farah, Bolt, Zidane to name a few) who haven’t bowed out on their own terms, and I guess the 13 boys who represented The Beacon on Wednesday against Davenies have just added a few more to that list. But fear not, Mr Robinson has scoured the area for another fixture and as always, he has come up trumps. More on that later.

In fairness to Davenies, they played to their strengths, executed a simple game plan very well and walked off with dirty shorts from all those ‘rubs of the green’… The Beacon boys on the other hand were maybe a little guilty of playing the occasion and not the game. We’ve never had so many handling errors in a match and our first up tackling was not good enough on the day.

Our inability to get the ball and keep it was very limited, and we relied on two great individual tries from Philip A and Finlay F to stay in the game. Our cohesion from previous weeks just didn’t get going this week and our ‘penalty’ count was off the charts, it’s always going to be hard to pull off a win under these conditions, but the boys battled very well and should not let this detract from a super season so far.

That was definitely a skibidi result but a sigma season – parents, if you don’t know what that means, shame on you and ask your son…

So next week, we are on the road again – I guess if we were chasing another fixture, we needed to be prepared to travel. We are playing away at Beachborough (who we played in the tournament right at the start of the season – we won a short match 1-0, so that will be a great test for us) and Ashfold will also be there to complete the triangular fixture. It’s about an hour from school – near Buckingham.

Let’s dust ourselves down boys and regroup for one final week.
