Pre Prep Wild Science Visit

Getting Close to Creatures of the Rainforest

In topic this term, our boys in Years 1 and 2 are learning about ‘Rainforests’. Year 1 have been finding out about the habitat of a rainforest and the different animals that live there, meanwhile Year 2 are focusing on the effect of palm oil on rainforests and how deforestation is impacting the animals that live in this habitat.

To support this learning, both years received a special visit from Wild Science on Tuesday 24th March. Robert, the Wild Science visitor, brought in a range of different animals and taught the boys some incredible facts about each of them. Our Pre-Prep boys were delighted to get up close to giant snails, lizards, scorpions, tarantulas, cockroaches and snakes. They even got to stroke a python and a boa constrictor! This visit set the boys nicely with great enthusiasm on their new topic and has inspired many to learn some more facts about the creatures they saw. A particular favourite was the leopard gecko and the tarantula, as they learnt how these animals hunt and hide from predators in very different ways.

Both years will soon be writing some fact files about the animals we saw on our Wild Science visit.
