Dear Parents,
Back ‘home’ today after spending the last few days on an ISI inspection in Northamptonshire and as a result, I was very sorry to miss the choral concert on Wednesday. By all accounts, this was a splendid occasion and though I could not be there in person, I will get to listen to the boys as they reprise the numbers in our Final Assembly next week. One of the many benefits of an all boys’ school is choral participation, with co-ed school choirs being predominantly female and devoid of male voices. No such issue here though and, as in weekly Assembly, end of term and our school productions, The Beacon congregation will always collectively sing with gusto and no little musicology. For me, my vocal register is limited but commitment total; fortunately I have Director of Music Karl Leutfeld in my life to guide and support when I hit the inevitable bum note on Monday mornings…
We seem to be out of sync with a few schools who break up today, but The Beacon cracks on next week in the run up to the Easter holidays. We work right up until the end of term of course but it wouldn’t be The Beacon without a bit of fun and games and with Easter Hat Parade, House Quiz and the Easter Bake Sale amongst other events, siblings on holiday will no doubt be jealous of their brothers at school rather than the other way round. Beacon Brothers of a different kind are back together this evening for a reunion of our 2020 exit group. Having missed saying goodbye to one another and the staff during that crazy Covid affected summer, we have scores of old boys returning for what I suspect will be a different type of party as 18-year-olds as it would have been when 13. And finally, our Baker Brothers will be reunited on Tuesday when Patrick returns from University; I think they have missed each other as much as Brigid and I have and it will be great to have everyone back together. Beacon and Bakers reunited, at the end of another successful and fulfilling term.
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
