Bakers Beacon Blog Week 22 2025

Dear Parents,

I’m always one to mark a birthday and this Wednesday was no different, particularly when, for the first time since 2012, I have a ‘birthday buddy’ in school – William (2G) and I were delighted to exchange cards and a chocolate bar – see you next year!   After giving blood first thing, I was slightly late to school and arrived to find a beautifully presented ‘Malteser Cake’ made by Mrs Rowland in The Beacon’s Cooking and Nutrition Room.   It was delicious, and yet more confirmation that investment in that area of the school has been completely justified.  It’s been a bumper year for me and birthday gifts this week with the cake on Wednesday, our superb ISI Report published on Monday, the Year 4 football team bringing me back the trophy from Oratory’s tournament on Tuesday, 3 points for Watford against Swansea on Wednesday and then two bronze Medals from IAPS Ski Championships on Thursday – who needs a dog as a gift!

Following on from our ‘Festival of Words’, the focus turned to STEM this week and the boys have been mathematically and scientifically inspired with any number of talks, workshops and activities punctuating the weekly curriculum.  Culminating of course with this lunchtime, and the final of the ‘Pi(e)’ competition.  With David Ife having left the school last year, I considered myself safe from ‘pieing’ today but still kept a low profile from Mr Langley and the contestants this week…no-one wants a custard pie in their face for their birthday…

Have a good weekend,

Nick Baker
