Dear Parents,
I have no doubt one of your ‘family jobs’ this weekend will be to buy a Christmas Tree. We have been down to the Christmas Tree Farm to buy our five splendid specimens of varying sizes that adorn the school site, and I will return this weekend to go through the traditional selection pantomime that is choosing a Christmas Tree. “What about this one?”, “It’s exactly the same as the last one”, “Too bushy”, “That one’s right at the back, how do you know it will be perfect?”, “Not the right shade of green”, etc etc etc. All fun and games, and a key part of the festive season – boys, do say hello to my old friend Jakki Matthews if visiting Christmas Tree Farm over the coming weeks. She once told me it takes on average 10 years to grow a tree; through our ever changing seasons that is not an easy job.
And, for the third year in a row, a Beacon School slant on an annual festive tradition, the boys have come home tonight with their Beacon School Advent Calendar. By the look on the boys’ faces at home time, Christmas has definitely come early and the advent of Christmas, sense of identity and pride in their school, all wrapped up in a chocolate treat calendar – that is a lot of happy boxes ticked off. My sincere thanks, again, to the very kind parent who sponsors this initiative. She wishes to remain anonymous but knows who and what she is – The Beacon School’s very own Christmas Fairy…
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
