U9B1 Triangular vs Chesham Prep and Moulsford

Starting off first against Chesham, we made a number of effective drives towards the try line but just got held up by a resolute Chesham defence, who then broke quickly and scored two quick tries.  Not to be downbeat, The Beacon came back with a try of their own with Jack showing nimble footwork to weave a way through the Chesham line.  Wilf, Freddie, Arjun and William were making strong runs and puncturing holes in the Chesham defence but just couldn’t get the equalising try before Chesham ran out 3-1 winners.

In the second match vs Moulsford, the boys upped their game and some ferocious tackling and purposeful running by Luca, Robert and Ronan made for an entertaining, even game that ended 2-2 – impressive seeing as this was our B Team against Moulsford’s A Team.  As the rain poured down, no-one minded and just made the boys even more determined.  A cracking two games of rugby.

U13A vs Bedford School (4-1)

A globetrotter, a voyager or an adventurer – just three ways to describe someone who loves travelling, and the U13’s have done some travelling for the first half of the season.

On Wednesday, we headed to Bedford and after our warm up, which lasted about six minutes and four of those were going to the toilet and getting our boots on, we kicked off and started another tough fixture.

The game was finely balanced throughout the first half with both sides working hard in defence, making untimely handling mistakes and being very disruptive at the breakdown. The half ended 0-0 but I knew if we got into our patterns quicker and moved the big Bedford pack around, we could score some tries.

The start of the second half didn’t go to plan and we were under a lot of pressure for the first 10-15 minutes. We just couldn’t get out of our 22 but this period was easily the best part of the game for me. The boys stuck together and fought for each other, and we kept our tryline intact and then on one of our pressure relieving kicks, Charlie C found Oran O’B with a cross-field kick pass. The bounce of the ball was favourable, and he pinned his ears back and went for it. What a try.

This gave the whole team a massive lift and after a short period of pressure in their 22, Thomas R did his classic pick and go and dotted down for a well-earned try. This was followed by another great try by Oran, who beat his man for pace and then Philip A finished off our scoring with a powerful and athletic finish from about 30 metres out. Bedford did get one try and were a constant threat throughout the game. The Beacon boys had to be at their best – none more so than Finlay F, who put in a man of the match performance and was immense for the whole game. A true leader by his actions during the game.

Well done boys, a super way to finish off this block of fixtures. The mid-season review is very positive and I’m just glad you all played better than how you sang on the bus on the way back…. Nearly two hours too….

Enjoy your well-earned break now and I hope you all have a great Battlefields trip and half term break.

A final thank you for the continued support from all parents and grandparents too.

U13B vs Bedford School
The game started off by Bedford scoring three good tries with their ability to win most of the rucks. Soon after Jackson R made a dash to the try line but got tackled out of touch on the corner flag of the try line. Straight away we bounced right back with Alex C receiving the ball just before our own try line and running the length of the pitch dodging past all the Bedford players scoring a wonderful try. Then Thomas Mc charged through their defensive line after many phases and scored another great try it was 3:2. To level the scores up Theo W weaved his way through to score a great try. Sadly, just before half time Bedford scored two more tries. At half time we had a good team talk and were ready to get back out there. It just wasn’t our day and Bedford Scored 5 more tries although Thomas Mc dived on the line at the end to make it 10:4. It was a great game from the whole team with Jackson R made a try saving tackle to return the favour from earlier even though he got injured. There was some great running from Laszlo B and Jahnu M on the wings. Kishan P made wonderful passes to Laszlo B on the wing; a great duo. Ben F put the ball in the scrum well. Great catches and ducking and diving from Theo H. Theo Westhorpe with 1 great try and some very good cross field kicks at the end. Oliver F with great connecting play. Finley W with some great runs, always wanting the ball a lot. Great rucking and offloading from Edward G. Driving his legs through the Bedford Defence was Armaan Kharald. And last but not least some great running and tackling from Aiden C, even though he got injured for most of the match. Overall, it was a great team effort from the whole team.

U11C vs Warwick Won 8-6
The Under 11 C1 team have been gathering momentum of late with strong performances in the past few weeks against Caldicott (draw), Davenies (win) and our own B2 team in training. Warwick were a little bit of an unknown on Wednesday, their year of 70+ boys bringing down an A, B and C to Chesham. Effectively, their third best team would play our fourth, so we expected a tough game. At half time, the score was 4-2 to Warwick, but our Beacon boys were well within touching distance. A truly gutsy second half performance saw us draw level within a few minutes and then take the lead. Excellent work at the breakdown, setting up play after play saw us stretch our lead to two – a margin we maintained for the remainder of the game to win 8-6. As well as the supreme effort, the boys showed great understanding within the game, executing some great moves in a very spirited team effort – it was a pleasure to watch – Mr Langley
Tries scored by: Jacobi (2), Soneji (2), McLoughlin, Zaborsky, Kumpan & Rickerby.
