Baker’s Beacon Blog – Week 4 2024

27 September 2024

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest and kind words regarding Patrick starting at University this week; it seems we are all in the same boat here regarding separation anxiety from our children at different stages of their lives.  Patrick texted us on Monday night asking “How do I make pesto pasta?”  Brigid and I went through the process and he managed to feed himself successfully, but when I mentioned this to colleagues at lunch on Tuesday, Catherine Smith, last year’s Cooking and Nutrition Technician, did quite rightly say, “We cover pesto pasta way back in Year 4 at The Beacon!”  Hmmm, yes, fair point, Patrick sadly didn’t come to The Beacon, but clearly your boys will be in a far better position and more than prepared to cook and feed themselves (and no doubt others) when they matriculate to University in the future…

Wet and rainy this week and with Thames Water digging up the road on Monday and Tuesday, this did cause problems with visibility and general logistics in the car park.  Finding the best solution for a school car park, particularly our North Car Park, is a priority for us, especially as we try to replace our dear departed Paul.  I have the President of the British Parking Association visiting next week to see if there is anything operational we can alter or implement and ensure we have a safe, efficient and stress-free drop off and pick up experience for all.  As we work to find the best solution, please do adhere to the 5mph speed limit, pay special attention whilst reversing, keep to the perimeter when walking and leave the disabled bays free for those that need them – thank you.

No-one likes a show-off but there are times when humble and proportional showing off is allowed and Open Morning for The Beacon tomorrow is one such occasion.  We have our best marketing – our boys and staff – to show our school off in the best possible light…and, who knows, it might just be a sunny morning especially for us!

Have a good weekend,

Nick Baker
