U12A vs St John’s Beaumont

The U12A team took to the field for their first home match of the season, showcasing the fruits of their hard work in training. From the first whistle, it was clear that the emphasis on expansive rugby and utilizing the full width of the pitch was going to be the theme of the day.
From the outset, the team passed the ball crisply along the line, spreading play wide and stretching the opposition. The backline executed their moves with precision, creating numerous opportunities to attack space on the flanks. The players’ ability to link up effectively and maintain continuity in their attacking phases was a joy to watch, as they moved the ball swiftly from one side of the pitch to the other.
The forwards were equally impressive, showing the results of their dedication to rucking and tackling during recent training sessions. The breakdown was well contested, with the U12A team winning the majority of rucks and providing clean, quick ball for the backs to exploit. Their commitment to physicality in defence was equally notable, as they tackled with determination, ensuring that the opposition found little success in breaking through.
As the match progressed, U12A’s dominance became clear. Their expansive style of play led to several well-worked tries, and their discipline in the ruck and tackling ensured that the opposition was kept at bay. Every player contributed to the team’s success, with good performances across the board. Well done to all involved.

U13A vs Belmont

On Wednesday, the U13A’s were on the road again – this week, off to Belmont.  This was our first full match of the season and thankfully we had more than ten minutes game time because unfortunately we needed ten minutes to wake up and get going this week.

So, after conceding 2 tries, the boys decided to start playing some rugby and when we kept the ball, we put together some great phases of play. Charlie C took a well taken try after some great team play. To use the first line from Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’ (our new team song) – For a while there, it was rough…

Getting the score back to 2 tries to 1 by half time was vital and it gave us the chance to regroup and kick on in the second. Thankfully, that’s exactly what happened – we supported the ball carrier quicker, got more aggressive in the contact area and got the ball into the hands of our strike runners more often. This resulted in us scoring 5 tries and only conceding one. Our tries came from Philip A with 2, Charlie C with his second, Xander B and Oran O’B finishing off a lovely kick pass from Charlie.

Well done to all the boys involved. A few knocks were taken during the game, but you all kept in the fight and kept going for each other. On top of that, you are starting to string together some nice phases of play – showing some of the ‘Beautiful Things’ that you’ve got…

Impressive performances, this week, were put in by Charlie C, Finlay F, Tag L, Xander B and Elliot Ross.

Our first home game next week, which we are all looking forward to…

U13B vs Belmont (Won 10-4)

In an almost carbon copy of the match last week, the boys started slowly, conceding two early tries before fully being ready to play their free-flowing style of rugby. The Beacon opened their scoring soon after, with an excellent bit of quick thinking from Jackson R to pick and go from the back of a ruck and then use his quick feet to get past the last defender. This was a sign of things to come, with tries from Alex C, Armaan K and Theo W keeping the score ticking over, to take the final tally to 6 tries to 2 at the end first half.
The second half was a continuation of the excellent rugby that the boys had played in the previous half, with Laszlo B running in a brilliant team try set up by Kishan P after he had carried the ball 10m with two players trying to bring him down, before playing the final decisive pass. The passing rugby on show from the boys was exquisite, leading to a hattrick of tries from both Jackson R and Theo H. Although the attacking rugby was standout, the defence allowed the team to not only keep the opposition out but lead to numerous turnovers, from some top notch jackalling from Cameron R. The match ended 10 tries to 4 in The Beacon’s favour. The boys showed great levels of sportsmanship and determination throughout the game. Well done!
