Dear Parents,
Even though it finished last Friday, talk amongst the Common Room and some of our older boys was all about ‘The Traitors’ this week. Beacon boys always tend to be well informed and ahead of the game, and I was intrigued to learn when visiting 8GT this week that they had even predicted the ‘Seer’ variation as, “The Traitors is basically the card game ‘Werewolves’ Mr Baker, we play it in Tutor Time and Board Games Club – the Seer Card is a key element.” That’s me told then. Compelling viewing and an occasion, increasingly rare these days, where the family, even reality TV cynic Brigid, comes together to watch a particular programme at a particular time. Not a terribly well known red letter day for the majority but in our household, we always mark tomorrow, 1 February, as it is ‘St Brigid’s Day’. We’ll go out for dinner and who knows, my ‘Brigid’ might just get a Werewolves card game as a gift to mark the occasion…
‘The Traitors’ might be over but plenty to talk about in the coming weeks with the start of the Six Nations this weekend. With our strong Irish contingent on staff, loyalties are split in our Common Room for tomorrow’s test match against England and I suspect there will be some contented Gaelic faces coming into school on Monday morning. I am spreading my opportunity for sporting satisfaction this weekend with Watford vs Norwich at lunchtime, Berkhamsted vs Haileybury (old boy Henry Lindop captaining the U12 A Football Team – insert fist pump emoji) in the afternoon and then the aforementioned rugby in the early evening. Surely I will have something to cheer from those three games…if not, it’s all on Joseph playing for Berkhamsted Raiders vs Wheathampstead Piranhas on Sunday morning in the weekend’s glamour fixture…no pressure Joseph…
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
