A show-stopping performance took place last Thursday and Friday, courtesy of our Year 8’s.
Performing Archie Dobson’s War across two consecutive days, the boys worked extremely hard for weeks prior and the result spoke for itself.
The narrative follows Archie Dobson (played by Angus B) who is 10 years old in 1914, and his sister Mabel (Ben F) who is a little older through the years 1914 to 1918. Archie watches his older cousin Walter (Xander B) leave on what he believes to be an exciting adventure, after enlisting in the army. The war has an impact on all of their lives throughout the tale.
The set design was an array of beautifully made poppies. Including the 3,200 handcrafted poppies created by pupils and staff at The Beacon, which featured on Market Hall in Old Amersham earlier in the week for Remembrance Day.
At the end of the show there were some incredibly moving facts, including how Amersham itself lost 80 boys during The First World War. Then, a few boys in the show stood up to honour the name of past Great Great Granddad’s they knew of who had been lost during the war.
Thanks to our amazing Artistic Directors, Rebecca Livermore and Zenelle Oosthuizen, for putting the extremely moving show together. It was truly a success!
