U13A vs Moulsford (5-3)

On Wednesday, the U13As were on the road again – this week, off to Moulsford (whose grounds look amazing, with all the pitches properly kitted out) and with a few new faces making their 1st team debut too – I mean who puts a football tournament on in the middle of the rugby season, and on a Wednesday too…

But that did not detract one bit from the effort and commitment levels, and we came away with a 5 tries to 3 win. We were down to a 12-a-side game and the opportunity for others to step up and take a leadership role was there for the taking and some of the boys relished it.

Xander B was an all-action captain for the afternoon, who had nothing but positive words for his teammates, but he also led with his actions on the pitch too – culminating with a fine solo try. Philip A was another who stepped up and was a torment for the Moulsford team for the whole game. Not only did he help himself to two superb tries, but he also worked his socks off in defence and his final try-saving tackle, where he tracked a line break and smashed him into touch just before our tryline was fantastic to see – maybe Elliot R shouldn’t have chipped the ball after all…. Whilst his kicking game needs some work, Elliot did have a fine game and his work around the field and at the breakdown was great to see. He was backed up by Angus B, Thomas R, James L (who scored a great pick and drive try) and Cameron R in the pack, with Cameron doing some real damage in the second half with his strong carries.

Our backs did not disappoint either. Ben F had a great game at scrum half and did all his duties very well, as well as working hard in defence. Theo H, at flyhalf, grew into the game and got more and more confident as the game went on. Both half backs kept the tempo high and were a great link between the forwards and the backs. Philip A was paired with Alex C this week in the centre, who carried hard into the opposition and got stuck into his defensive responsibilities too. Our outside backs, Louis D and Jackson R, were both tenacious throughout, with Louis taking a great intercept try and Jackson making some super last-ditch tackles from fullback.

All in all, a great week’s work and the boys should be very proud of the way they all represented the school.

Thank you for all the parental support again. Great win boys – well done.

U12A vs Moulsford (4-3)

On a beautiful day that was perfect for running rugby, The Beacon U12A hosted Moulsford for a thrilling contest that kept everyone on the edge throughout. Although The Beacon faced an early setback, going two tries down, they rallied with skill and determination to level the score at 2-2. Both teams displayed excellent rugby, with a physical edge that saw big tackles and intense pressure on either side.
The first half was a true back-and-forth battle. Just before the break, The Beacon scored a fantastic try in the corner, ending the half tied at 3-3. Energised and focused, The Beacon started the second half with a brilliant combination of physicality and slick passing, taking the lead for the first time with a well-earned try to make it 4-3.
Moulsford didn’t go down without a fight, and they responded with a clever pick-and-go play near the try line, levelling the score once again. As the match heated up, Moulsford’s penalty count started to rise. Capitalising on this, The Beacon quickly took a free pass, moving the ball with precision through multiple phases and ultimately breaking through for another try.
With just 30 seconds remaining, The Beacon kicked off long, forced a knock-on from Moulsford, and held on to claim a hard-fought victory. This was an outstanding match to referee, full of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and the parents on the sidelines were treated to a fantastic display. Congratulations to The Beacon U12A on a thoroughly deserved win – well done, boys!
