Sports Review – Week 7

U11A vs Gayhurst

The U11A took the field against our old rivals Gayhurst, and returned to winning ways with a thrilling victory, proving that sometimes Wednesday is the most exciting day of the week—even if some boys had to miss a rugby match for a… maths competition! (Really, what is the world coming to?)

The boys started ferociously and ran in a couple of early tries, showing they hadn’t forgotten how to play on the big pitch, finally spreading out to use the space properly and giving the fast guys the ball in space. The Beacon’s defence was really impressive, with Alex Sarwar-Wells leading the way with some ferocious hits. It was great to see the A and B team boys moving up in a line and not giving the opposition any space to move the ball.

There were some moments when the game looked as though it might turn, but Beacon’s ferocity and newfound knack for playing the full width of the pitch sealed the deal. It was a game full of heart, passion, skill and—thankfully—no algebra.

All in all, a well-deserved win, and perhaps a hint to any mathematicians out there, that Wednesday afternoons are best spent on the sports field.

U9A vs Oratory Prep

The U9A continued their unbeaten start to the year with another convincing win against Oratory Prep. The boys have started to move the ball down the line, which is amazing considering how young they are but each week they get better and better. Hopefully they will continue their great start to the term with some tough fixtures after half term.

U8D1 vs Gayhurst

The U8D1 rugby team kicked off their first away match of the season with a strong performance, securing a 16-11 victory against Gayhurst. From the outset, the team displayed remarkable teamwork and skill, contributing to an exciting game filled with tries!
In a fantastic display of sportsmanship and collaboration, every player on the team managed to score at least one try. Ibrahim S and Joe K particularly stood out for their selflessness; after receiving instructions at half-time that they were not allowed to score again, they focused on facilitating scoring opportunities for their teammates, ensuring that everyone had a chance to shine.
Harris M, Dhruv V, Arjun A, and Aarlen J showcased impressive running abilities, consistently pushing forward and quickly moving the ball after being touched. Their agility and awareness on the field kept the opposition on their toes at all times.
The highlight of the match came when the ball was expertly moved twice away from a touch tackle, creating space and allowing for a well-placed finish in the corner. This teamwork exemplified the skills they’ve been honing during training.
Overall, the match was a testament to the development and spirit of the U8D1 team. With everyone contributing to the scoreline and a focus on teamwork, all can be proud of their efforts as they look to make further improvement after half-term!

U8A vs Gayhurst
The U8A rugby team played their first away match of the season against Gayhurst, and what a game it was! The boys put in an incredible performance, showing great determination and teamwork throughout the match. The progress they’ve made in training was clear to see, as they successfully applied many of the key skills we’ve been working on.
Defensively, the boys were superb, coming up together in a strong line and putting pressure on the Gayhurst attack. This unity in defense made it difficult for the opposition to find gaps, and it was fantastic to see everyone working as a team to shut down their attacking plays.
In attack, the boys were equally impressive. They passed the ball into space with confidence and precision, which led to some brilliant team tries. By moving the ball out wide and looking for open spaces, they created numerous scoring opportunities, which they capitalised on to great effect.
The final score of 8 tries to 3 reflected their hard work and dedication, and every player should be proud of the effort they put in. A fantastic first away match of the season!

U12A vs Belmont
After a narrow defeat last week, The Beacon U12A rugby team was eager to bounce back with a strong performance in their away fixture against Belmont. The boys came out with clear determination, eager to put last week behind them and secure a victory.
The game started with great intensity as The Beacon immediately took control, scoring early tries that put the Belmont team under pressure. The team’s aggressive tackling and solid defensive line stood out from the start, with every player committed to keeping Belmont at bay. In attack, The Beacon moved the ball fluidly, spreading it wide which allowed them to exploit gaps in the Belmont defence.
Despite building a strong lead, Belmont fought back and came within one score at one point, testing The Beacon’s resilience. However, the boys showed tremendous determination, maintaining their composure and continuing to work hard in both attack and defence. Their effort paid off, and they extended their lead with more well-worked tries.
In the end, The Beacon secured a well-deserved victory, finishing with 8 tries to Belmont’s 5. The match showcased some fantastic rugby, with the whole team contributing to a solid performance.
Well done to all involved!
