U12Bs Cricket vs Aldwickbury (Draw)

The Beacon lost the toss and were put into bat first to set the first total of the boy’s cricket season. The pressure was eased with early runs from Eeshan K hitting a lovely pull shot for four and getting the score ticking over. Quick singles were picked up by the dynamic duo of Alex C and Berik I, who ran well between the stumps. After a quick fall of wickets, the last two batsmen, Lazlo B and Finlay F, managed to steady the ship and bat out the last overs. The boys ended on 91 runs.

Rain delayed the start of the second innings, but it did not dampen the spirit of the boys. Early overs from Aiden C and Edward F kept the Aldwickbury total down, along with some alert fielding down the leg side by Angus B to stop two potential boundaries. Benjy G and Jahnu M stood out with their consistency with the ball in hand, going for 7 and 5 runs respectively off their two overs. The opposition needed 9 runs off 3 overs, 6 runs from 2 overs and finally 3 runs off the last over. It was a tense ending but Aldwickbury only managed to knock off 2 runs… 91 runs apiece. The match was a draw!

A big well done must go to the man of the match, Philip A who totaled up 16 runs as the opening batsman and took two incredible reflex catches as wicket keeper. Great work!

Swimming Gala Vs Haberdashers

In the fiercely contested finals of the school swim league, our Year 4 team – Henry O, Theo M-M, Thomas L, Reece A, Henry J, George S, Evan A, and Bertie H (Year 3), along with our Year 5 team – Sean E, Jeevan L, Sahan L, Oliver M, Arki B, Henry L, Alex Y, and Max S, and our Year 6 team – Nikhil J, Shay N, Harry T, Hugo C, Thomas F, Henry D-H, Archie K-G, and Freddie W, all from the swim squad, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, showcasing their talent and dedication to the sport. Despite their outstanding performance and commendable efforts, victory eluded them this time. It’s worth noting that the event took place at Haberdashers Boys School, and the team faced several challenges, with a significant number of changes due to some boys competing in an athletics event that coincided with the swim finals. Additionally, a big well done goes out to all those who swam for the first time to represent our school, showing courage and commitment in the face of competition. Though all the boys swam well and competed excellently, the competition proved formidable, leaving our team just short of securing the coveted victory. Nonetheless, their participation and display of sportsmanship are testaments to their commitment and perseverance, setting a strong foundation for future successes.
