22 March 2024
Dear Parents,
As the weather improves, I have been leaving the bike trainer and World of Zwift behind to venture outdoors in preparation for our Beacon to Paris Bike Ride in June. Having completed the route once before, I am confident I will make it, but I am less confident about keeping up with the Beacon Peloton of parents and staff who seem a lot fitter and stronger than the group I did this with at my previous school. There are 19 of us taking part on the weekend of 14, 15 and 16 June and if anyone would like to sponsor our Lycra with a company logo (or even a supportive message), please do get in touch. We have the Euros and the Olympics this summer but Beacon to Paris will be the blue riband sporting event of 2024, so maximum profiling opportunities are available…
The Beacon colours and branding gives plenty of opportunity for a rascal cycling jersey design, but it will have to go some way to top Belgium’s football team after they unveiled their second strip that is inspired by their (and my) national literary hero Tintin. I can’t think there is going to be any psychological advantage to the Belgium football team lining up as a group of Tintins before a big match at the Euros but sartorially elegant and respectful towards their heritage they certainly will be. The kit is making its debut next week in their friendly match against England and though normally I would always support the home team, for what will be just a warm up for the main tournament this summer I for one will be shouting “Come on the Tintins!” on Tuesday.
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
