Our Year 6 boys took the journey down to the lovely seaside town of Newquay last week for their Residential Trip; which they were very excited for.
On route, they stopped at the Aqua Park and had a fantastic time on the water inflatables. There was plenty of slipping and sliding competitions between boys and staff!
The journey into Newquay then continued, with high spirits as they reached their destination. Everyone dropped off their bags quickly and headed to the beach for a few hours. The afternoon consisted of beach cricket, frisbee, football, hole digging and rock pool exploration.
After a lovely evening meal, they made their way to Hendra pool for an evening swim. Our boys had a lot of fun with the flumes and the rapids, which tired them out for bedtime! The first day set a good tone for the rest of the week, with lots of fun and excitement to follow on.
On day 2, our Year 6 boys headed down to Swanpool Beach after breakfast, some of the boys were up bright and early, very early! They got involved with some of the many activities on offer at Swanpool, including Kayaking, Giant Paddle Boarding and Coasteering. To top off the day, the boys were all treated to some giant ice cream! After a delicious dinner of chicken/veggie burgers and chips, our boys were given a choice as to what activity they wanted to do. Either going to the beach for games or staying at the hotel and having a board game night with Mr Langley and Mr Horn. An excellent way to finish off an exciting day.
On day 3, our boys went to Flambards Theme Park. Singlehandedly raising an absolute fortune for the arcade and ice cream van. Harmonicas were bought (and confiscated!) and the boys really enjoyed the independence that came with exploring the site and choosing which rides to go on. The boys were given the same options for activities that evening, beach or board games to end a successful day out.
On day 4, our boys went to Porthtowan where they took part in full day of surfing and bodyboarding. Everyone had a fantastic time which was only (slightly) hampered by 2 boys (and Mr Sutcliffe) getting stung by Weever Fish – painful but not serious. They were back out on the water in no time! In the evening, all of the group ventured to the beach for the final time. Pizza, beach games and sand castle competitions… what more could you want?! Apart from a seagull taking someone’s pizza!
Our Year 6 boys were excellent on this year’s trip, our staff members received lovely feedback from each venue visited, which is a real credit to The Beacon.
“I want to share a very public and heartfelt thank you to my team of teachers that have looked after the Year 6 boys last week. The support they have shown the boys has been exceptional. Each boy has had masses of individual attention, the team have been on hand to deal with any minor issues or upset, and they have been instrumental in making sure everyone had an immense week. For some of my team, they left young families at home, making various sacrifices to attend the trip and give total commitment. I am grateful to them” Written by Mr Miles
