We were thoroughly impressed by the level of incredible talent that was shown during our Instrumental Concert last night.
The event was held in the Spinney Theatre at The Beacon, and we were overwhelmed by the attendance from family and friends who came to enjoy the show. We were also thrilled to be joined by Heatherton girls who took part in the Main Orchestra section of the performance.
The show got off to a great start with our Training Orchestra performing 2 pieces, one of which involved audience collaboration and sounded amazing. Moving onto our Junior Guitar Ensemble, who performed excellently showing off their continuously improving technique.
This was then followed by our Brass Band, who performed ‘What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor’ and of course, audience participation was very much warranted during this performance. Dr Lockley kicked off by singing along and the audience very quickly joined in.
Our Senior Guitar Ensemble also performed well during their rendition of ‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police. Then we heard from our Main Orchestra, including Heatherton girls, who got everyone into the Christmas spirit by performing ‘Silent Night’.
The evening was finished off with our Beacon Rock Band. Milan A took the lead on the first song of ‘Mr Brightside’, and Sam K closed the show with ‘Sweet Child of Mine’.
During the concert, we were delighted to experience the musical talent of one of our Peripatetic teachers, Mr Rowlands, who performed a piece on the Harp which was truly breathtaking. As well as this, Dr Lockley is always on the lookout for talented parents and he was pleased to see Ms Martin agree to perform an outstanding piece written by Mozart, ‘Come Scoglio from Cosi Fan Tutte’.
Dr Lockley says, “Autumn Term’s Instrumental Concert was an outstanding success featuring performances from our two orchestras, brass band, senior and junior guitar ensembles and the rock band. Parents in attendance enjoyed a musical extravaganza that included everything from Opera to Rock N Roll. Special thanks to visiting guest artists Mr Rowlands on harp and Soprano, Ms Martin, whose performances were absolutely fantastic. Well done Beacon musicians on a most professional production!”
