Throughout the Autumn Term, our boys have been fortunate to have collaborated with a local girls’ school, Heatherton Prep School, to participate in various joint activities.
The first collaboration was with our main Beacon Orchestra. Our Beacon boys were joined by a talented group of instrumentalists from Heatherton to rehearse together weekly on a Monday. This gives the children an opportunity to work together and to blend their sound with musicians they haven’t played with before. The orchestra have come a long way since initially working together and are sounding excellent during their rehearsals. They are preparing for their showcase, which will be taking place during the Instrumental Concert on Tuesday 22 November.
It is very exciting to be working in collaboration with Heatherton Prep School, exploring some fantastic orchestral repertoire together.
The Year 4 boys and girls from both schools have also taken part in a joint Art project. As Remembrance Day approaches, Michelle Jackson (Head of Art at The Beacon) took inspiration from the London Bridge poppy display that happened in 2014, and initiated a collaborative poppy project to recreate an outstanding display of poppies to mark our respects. Year 4 pupils from both schools were enthusiastic to carefully craft their own poppies out of clay, finishing them off by painting them red in preparation for them to be displayed on a grass area in Amersham between our two schools for all the public to see. If you see the wonderful poppy display, please do take a photo and post your picture tagging #SchoolPoppyArt.
A big thank you to Heatherton Prep School – we hope to continue this blooming friendship.
