Chris Bradford Visits The Beacon

We were delighted to welcome Chris Bradford, a multi-million-pound selling author to The Beacon today to talk to our Upper School boys and present his dynamic ‘Bodyguard’ presentation. Chris is best known for his award-winning ‘Young Samari’ series and his newest series.

During his presentation, Chris showcased his Bodyguard series of novels for the boys and gave them an incredible insight into the life of what he terms a ‘Method Author’ who lives and breathes the world of his characters to ensure complete accuracy.

While researching his books, Bradford undertook full bodyguard training with a cohort of police, army and other recruits. His presentation combined interactive readings, audio-visual footage and role play with the students and taught them anti-surveillance skills, secret defence techniques and how to protect a VIP in a crowd.  He also revealed how his martial arts training was key to his research on both his Bodyguard and Young Samurai series of books. The boys were particularly thrilled with Bradford’s unveiling of his own authentic Samurai sword.

Mrs Howard, our librarian, said, ‘The boys asked fantastic questions and were clearly thrilled to have such an expert in their midst. I have never seen so many hands up for volunteers to be tracked, … and defended!’
