This week, The Beacon has hosted a variety of half term clubs for children in Reception up to Year 8. The clubs were run independently by our wonderful Beacon teaching staff.
There was an Activity Club for Reception and Year 1 children, lead by Our Reception Teacher, Mrs Pickard. The activities throughout the week had a distinctly autumnal theme. The children thought about lots of different woodland animals of which were brought to life in arts, crafts, and baking. From owls to foxes, take a look at the gallery below! The group also enjoyed relaxing with a book, completing puzzles and building amazing constructions!
Years 2-8 children could get active enjoying a Multi Sports Activity Club, run my our Director of Sport, Mr Robinson and other familiar Beacon staff, Mr Privett and Mr Winter. With a focus on having fun, the children participated in a variety of Sport-related activities, from football to dodgeball. There were tournaments and competitions, including ‘Kick the Can’ challenges and swimming.
In our Design and Technology lab, children in Years 4-8 were crafting a variety of objects, from a small floating table to butter knives using hardwood. The club was run by our Head of Design & Technology, Mr Van Rooyen. The children built catapults, created bookends, did some laser engraving and finally created their very own ball bearing game. As well as developing their Design and Technology skills, they got to keep their hand-made items at the end of the club!
Miss Jackson, Head of Art at The Beacon, also ran a club in our colourful Art Studio. Boys and girls in Years 4-8 could register. During the week, the children were introduced to a range of new artistic techniques that they applied in their own artwork creations, including Batik Fabric Painting, Photography, Spray Painting and Printing. Creativity was bursting, and there were some amazing pieces.
