As the date approached that would have seen Beacon Boys coming together for Sports Day, a group of Beacon parents decided to help mark the occasion by inviting boys to take part in a sponsored, virtual 150km dash.
To help raise crucial funds for the Chiltern Food Bank, the aim was to run 150km as a combined group where each boy who ran could be sponsored for his efforts. However, what we we actually saw was 75 families (204 runners) pledging 964.96km, more than six times the targeted distance! The response was fantastic and the organisers of the event, ‘Mums on the Run’, were blown away by the enthusiasm of such a significant number of our Community.
The chosen charity for this event, the Chiltern Foodbank (CFB), provides food for families in a large area from Amersham, Chesham and Prestwood all the way to Wendover and Aston Clinton. Last year CFB fed 3192 people, 36% which were children. In these unprecedented times and in only a matter of 7 weeks,
CFB have fed 1276 people, 43% were children which is already 40% of the total year’s figures! Whilst CFB’s prime concern is ensuring they feed families, there is a new critical issue which is Digital Poverty.
Digital Poverty is the lack of access to a device by disadvantaged families and is prevalent in the Chiltern District area as well as Nationally.
It is with great pride and pleasure that we report that, at the time of writing, the event has raised £5,465 including gift aid! This outstanding figure is phenomenal and will enable the Chiltern Foodbank to make a significant difference. In response to our efforts, the CFB sent the following message:
“‘Absolutely amazing. What a wonderful team of runners you all are. With the gift aid element, it will mean that at least 12 laptops can be purchased by local schools. Heartfelt thanks from all at CFB.”
